Take Time to Smell the Roses
Dec 17, 2018Take time to smell the roses…or the daisies.
So much information/courses/stuff is thrown at us from all sides that by trying to take it in, or on, we may end up like a rudderless ship being tossed around by the mighty waves in the ocean.
I am a glutton for learning and am always with my nose in a book or online course. I am presently reading 4 books.
- Opportunity by Eben Pagan
- High Performance Habits by Brendan Burchard
- The Power of Myth by Joseph Campbell, and
- Voyagers by Ashayana Deane – this one I have been reading for a few months – hard one to get into, but typically me, I can’t give up – must take it to the end.
And that is in addition to a few online courses I am taking. Certainly, a diverse lot and makes for interesting reading and growing.
Though, it struck me that with so many irons in the fire I am causing my own stress. Darting here, darting there, trying to figure it out – is it truth or fable – and realized its time to stop and take stock and take a stand!
But how? I teach about the importance of focus and balance and clarity – not walking the talk, because right now I am the rudderless ship.
I am also the proponent of ‘all your answers for your life is within you’. My philosophy is - don’t believe a word ‘they’ say unless it touches a spot within you, it resonates with you. If it does not feel good, it is because it is probably not good for you.
So, what is the solution? I asked the questions. What is most important to me? Where am I heading right now? Which of these books and courses will take me closer to where I want to be? I had to choose. I went back to the drawing board and noted the value each offered.
Two of the books were for ‘enjoyment’ and I chose one to continue reading in my ‘pleasure time’. The other would have to wait until I completed the first one.
Of the two ‘business’ books I too had to figure the immediate value to spur me on, to better equip me to reach my goals.
It is so easy to get tied up in a knot with ’stuff’, causing your own stress with so much to do – and that was only with my books. What about the 101 other things that life demands from us?
Stop! Take stock and take a stand – for you.

The Law of Choices
The most basic choice we have in life is whether to bring our creative and expressive energies into the world in negative or positive ways. We have the power to choose, no matter the circumstances.
