The Power of Personal Power!
Jun 26, 2019“Achievement doesn’t come from what we do, but from who we are. Our worldly power results from our personal power. Our career is an extension of our personality. People who profoundly achieve, aren’t necessarily people who do much, they’re people around who things get done”.
This is a quote from Marianne Williamson. Maybe you agree, maybe you don’t.
But let me tell you my story which bears witness to personal power.
Several years ago, I found myself sitting in a boardroom presiding at the executive meeting of the local Chamber of Commerce. The executive committee were all successful business people from big and small companies. At the time I had just recently started my own business and was not yet anywhere as successful as they were.
How then, had I been elected to the position of president of this body?
Firstly, in South Africa no woman had previously held the position of president in the movement, and here I was, the first woman.
Secondly (and secretly) I came from the wrong side of the track - which at that time was a dark period in our country’s political history. So why me?
In later years I reflected deeply and concluded that it was my own personal power that had earned me the leadership position. It was who I was. The characteristics of my personal power was:
- Self belief
- Inner strength
- Trustworthiness
- Response -able
- Dependable
- Tenacity
- Boldness
- Leadership qualities
- Getting things done! ...and I believe(a pleasing nature) :)
We all have personal power, maybe with different characteristics though – albeit it that at times we may not be aware of it, because many times we get lost in the frantic busyness of our world, that we lose sight of our power – to our detriment.
The Point?
There are steps we can take to get us back on track to our True Self.
