Book a call

Nature is a Great Teacher

life lessons Dec 10, 2018

The first hour of my day is for me  to get into the right frame of mind and geared up for the day. So, while I wait for the kettle to boil for my first drink, a cup of hot water with a slice of lemon, I do some stretches and then enjoy my necessary cup of coffee. Now I’m ready for my ‘quiet time which is prayer and meditation.

That done, I start my morning walk and head for a Sanctuary, a 20 - minute walk from home.

The inviting nooks and crannies set in beautiful gardens with rose beds of spectacular color, and fountains, is the perfect setting for reflection and planning. Quiet and peaceful. I notice a flower placed on the side of a bird bath and a few flowers floating in the fountain, little actions of care, and I say a quiet thank you to the person who has come earlier and taken the time to offer this kind service.

I sit on a bench under a tree facing the fountain. The soothing sound of water flowing and otherwise, stillness envelopes me and draws me into the stillness.  I shut my eyes and bask in the serene moment, my inner being grateful for answering its call.

After a while, the majestic Californian oak beckons me. I walk across and stand in awe under this giant whose trunk is strong and powerful and the reach of its massive leafed boughs spreads in all directions and a moment of satori and I get it, ‘The Law of Divine Oneness!”  This morning this massive old oak teaches me an important life lesson - I see the connectedness of us all. One powerful strong trunk – out of which stretches several sturdy branches, and leaves and some twigs – all connected – the perfect metaphor for us, the human race.… just like the ocean with the endless waves, and the sun and sunbeams – inseparable, and I understand ‘whatever I do to you I do to me.’  Worth thinking about, isn’t it?

My morning ritual done, I head back home, inspired by life and its mysteries – ready to handle whatever the day offers me. I need that time.

As I pass other early walkers I smile, and the smile is reflected back to me.

A good start to a great day! Give it a try…. a quiet, peaceful morning ritual to start your busy day works wonders, whatever the time you can spare.

The Point?

Time out for your Self is vital to your well-being, and to start the day in the right frame of mind, and real connection to others, essential to an enjoyable, productive day.
