Is this our destiny?

I had a vision...or a dream - not sure what, but it was very real!

"I saw a future with my great grandchildren in a world, silent of human voices, and only the sound of clanging machinery audible!  (I have 4 granddaughters - the eldest granddaughter 16 and youngest 10 - their children!) 

They were walking huddled over their cell phones, backs bent, and fingers busily working away at the cellphone keyboard - no-one looking at one another, no-one appearing aware of  each other's presence - each in their own world - alone!

A world devoid of human voices...of talking, of laughter, of music, of birds singing and dogs barking. Just the sound of metal on metal in the background.

It was scary!

Is this  how we are evolving...right in front of our noses...with our permission?

The very essence of our humanness is being threatened, and we're standing by and watching...allowing. The art of communication - real authentic connection done? Gone?

The Point?

 I care, and it does matter to me. It is too sad.

But what to do?

Obviously, there is a need for the cell phone -  to make calls! When you're trying to connect with someone in another town/state/ country, or for business.

But! Let's reconnect, and communicate and care and contribute, as only humans can when we're in each others' space!

Let's not:

• have a family outing with each sitting on the phone
• have a phone call  interfere in family dinner time - even, and especially business calls
• have any cell phones at the dinner table 
• set a bad example thus giving the children permission, by our own actions. 
• try to fill the space to avoid talking to one another by getting hooked onto the phone.

Let's

Put the phones away for just an hour a day, and talk to each other - face to face, eyeball to eyeball - just for starters! 

Let's enjoy our precious time together, in fact, make the time to become real and authentic. Lets be really human again...or else...only God knows!  

Would you dare switch your phone off for just an hour or two and connect, really connect authentically with your spouses, partners, children, brothers and sisters, friends, neighbors or colleagues?
